Container terminals

The biggest container terminals in the world:
The Kwai Tsing container terminal in Hong Kong ( China ) is the biggest container terminal in the world. The Kwai Tsing Container Terminals, located in the north-western part of the harbour of Hong Kong, has nine container terminals with 24 berths of about 8,500 metres of frontage. It covers a total terminal area of about 2.7 km² which includes container yards and container freight stations. The nine container terminals have a total handling capacity of over 18 million twenty-foot equivalent units per year (TEU).





PSA container terminal in Singapore is the world's second largest container hub. PSA handled 15 millon TUES last year. This terminal is part of PSA Singapore Terminals which handled 27.1 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUS) of containers. PSA operates 4 container terminals and 2 multi-purpose terminals in Singapore, and links shippers to an excellent network of 200 shipping lines with connections to 600 ports in 123 countries.



The third biggest container terminal in the world is Keppel harbour container terminal in Singapore. This is the other big container terminal in Singapore and handles about 12.1 million TUES each year:


The Yantian Container Terminal in Shenzhen, China is the 4th biggest container terminal in the world.The Yantian Container terminal can handle 12 million TEUs of containers per year:


Another huge container terminal is located in Busan in South Korea. Busan Port is located in the southeast of the Korean peninsula, it plays the role of a gateway connecting the Pacific Ocean and the Asian continent. Also, as the leading port in South Korea, it makes a substantial contribution to Korean economic growth by handling about 40% of the total imported and exported overseas cargo and 80% of container cargo. The number of vessels that use Busan Port totals about 50,000 annually and around 130 vessels everyday. This terminal in the port of Busan is the 5th biggest container terminal in the world.

Europe Container Terminals (ECT) in Rotterdam ( The Netherlands ), is the largest and most advanced container terminal operator in Europe, handling almost three-quarters of all containers at the Port of Rotterdam. In 2005 ECT handled 5.6 million TEU:





Hamburg has Europe's second busiest container terminal after Rotterdam, Netherlands, and is among the ten biggest of the world. This terminal is called the HHLA container terminal:



Other container terminals which belong to the biggest in the world are Shanghai East Container Terminals Co (The Waigaoqiao Terminal) in Shanghai, this container terminal in Los Angeles, and this one in Valencia, Spain.
